When I was an intern at Iligan City National High School, I had the privilege of meeting a wide variety of students, each bringing their unique energy and perspectives to the classroom. From the most boisterous and outgoing to the calm and composed, each student had a story that added richness to my experience. I became more than just a teacher to them — I became a listener, a mentor, and someone who tried to understand the challenges they faced both inside and outside the classroom.
Teaching in the afternoons came with its own set of challenges. The heat in the classrooms was intense, especially as the day wore on, but it was never just about the physical discomfort. It was about creating an environment where students could feel motivated to chase their dreams, despite the external and internal struggles they were going through. Every class was a reminder that behind every lesson I taught, there was a student fighting for something greater — a dream, a future.
The journey wasn’t just about pushing my students forward; it was a collective push. Alongside my fellow interns, we supported each other through the tough days, shared ideas, and worked together to overcome the obstacles we faced. We were more than just colleagues — we were a team united by a common goal of influencing lives in a meaningful way.
Looking back on my time at Iligan City National High School, I realize how much I gained from the experience. Yes, I tried my best to teach my students the academic subjects, but the lessons I received from them were far greater. They taught me patience, resilience, and the power of empathy. I am forever grateful for the chance to be part of their lives, and even more grateful for the ways they helped me grow as both a teacher and an individual.
