Working at Suncoast Primary Care Specialists has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my career. It’s not just about answering calls or managing paperwork—this job really pushes me to connect with people, using both emotional and intellectual strength. In this role, I often deal with patients who may not fully understand the intricacies of healthcare, and sometimes, they’re frustrated or confused, questioning if I'm doing my job right.
As a call center representative, I handle a range of responsibilities—everything from answering patient calls, both inbound and outbound, to managing refill requests, coordinating pharmacy communications, and handling all kinds of patient records. I deal with faxes, medical records, insurance authorizations, referrals, and more. Even though I'm based in the Philippines, my client is in Florida, and I’m dedicated to providing top-notch service to the patients of Suncoast Primary Care Specialists.
Even with the challenges, I’ve learned the importance of staying calm and composed. One moment that stands out was last week, when I had a very upset patient on the line. He was frustrated and anxious, especially about the insurance process. I explained multiple times that insurance authorizations take time, but he continued to vent his dissatisfaction, cursing the company. Rather than getting defensive, I took a deep breath, stayed patient, and apologized—even for things that were out of my control. I realized that sometimes, simply listening and offering a genuine apology can really help ease someone's anxiety.
At the clinic, we have many senior citizens who come in daily, needing everything from help with their medications to emotional support for personal struggles. Helping them, no matter how small the task, is a privilege. It's the kind of work that may not always feel immediately impactful, but I know I’m making a difference in their lives, even if it's just in small ways.
This job has taught me so much—not just about healthcare, but about patience, empathy, and resilience. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and for the wonderful people who’ve supported me through the ups and downs. It’s shaped me into a more compassionate person and reaffirmed my commitment to being of service to others.
